We are currently recruiting for a EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Officer to join our Compliance team.
This position is part time, 22.5 hours across 3 days per week (office based at our national distribution center, Nottingham)
You will be responsible for:
The EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Officer ensures that the Distribution Centre operates in accordance with our management systems and applicable regulations. The role holder will: -
- Be a visible onsite safety presence to address unsafe behaviours and unsafe conditions.
- Be a visible onsite presence to promote environmental stewardship.
- Support NDC Leadership Team by providing on-site EHS expertise
- Support Carbon Reduction Officer with NDC related ESG projects
The role holder will:
- Ensure the Compliance risk register accurately reflects all NDC risks
- Ensure the NDC Risk register and Incident log accurately reflect current risks and known incidents
- Resolve items on the SP Risk Register, working with the NDC Leadership Team
- Support the investigation of any reported incidents
- Ensure suitable and sufficient Area Risk Assessments are in place, and trained out
- Review the documented Safe Systems of Work to ensure they are suitable AND being followed by all shift teams.
- Ensure equipment is inspected to meet PUWER and Statutory requirements, with records retained.
- Support out of hours supervisors to understand and comply with their EHS responsibilities
- Review contractor RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
- Support the local NDC Leadership Team with Permit to Work requirements for any planned high-risk work (hot work, working at height, electrical work)
- Ensure records are retained to demonstrate regulatory compliance
- Ensure that all services and activities are provided in accordance with current legislation / NHS guidelines and Company process and policy.
- Continually look for, and suggest, ways we can improve the service we provide to the wider business, to Health Care professionals and to our mutual clients.
- Actively promote Fittleworth to internal and external customers, carrying out all duties in an efficient, professional and courteous manner.
- Authority to stop work in progress if deemed unsafe
- Identification of EHS risks and suitable corrective actions
- Demonstrate the Fittleworth Way Values within the business at all times
Skills required to be successful:
- NEBOSH Certificate
- Manual Handling trainer(desired)
- Previous FLT driver (desired)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in site EHS Officer role
- Warehouse / Distribution based experience (preferred).
- Experience of MHE and Pallet Racking operations (preferred).
- Multi shift environment experience.
- Demonstrate an open communicative style, down to earth approach.
- Behavioral Safety approach rather than rules based (supportive not punishing)
- Team player with a Can-Do attitude. Here to help resolve any EHS concern.

- Computer literate, able to update SP systems (incident log, risk register)
